The show will run from April 12-17, with shows on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday at 7:30 p.m., and also Saturday at 2 p.m.

Lighthouse Preparatory Academy is known for its musicals, but the school is changing gears this season by partnering with the Stained Glass Theater to perform a classic production, “The Adventures of Tom Sawyer.”

Based on the 1876 Mark Twain novel, “The Adventures of Tom Sawyer” follows a young boy named Tom Sawyer through mischievous situations like sneaking out of his aunt’s house and convincing his friends to paint a fence for him, all the way to standing up against villains.

The production and partnership was “God’s plan” since the school hadn’t planned on performing a spring show due to the COVID-19 pandemic, said Jenni Cecil, who, alongside Laurie Janeczko, co-directs the production. The school also doesn’t have a formal theater, so performing at Stained Glass Theater is “a treat,” Cecil added.

The 27-member cast, who range from fourth through 12th grade, get to step out of their comfort zones in this production, too. Lighthouse Preparatory Academy regularly performs musicals, but “The Adventures of Tom Sawyer” gives students a chance to focus on their acting.

“We have gotten kids who may not feel as comfortable in a musical setting, and they’re able to come here and shine,” Cecil said. “That has been super cool to watch and they’ve gotten some special moments.”

Cecil added she is excited to watch the students perform the final product, adding the camaraderie among the cast will shine through.

This production has a special place in the heart of Grayson Janeczko, 16, who plays Tom Sawyer. This is the junior’s first time playing the lead role, and while he said it has been stressful, he has enjoyed the part so far.

“It’s a struggle with how many lines I have to memorize, but it’s really fun getting to see the crowd’s faces and how they react to your lines,” he said.

Stained Glass Theatre, located at 830 E. High St., will host “The Adventures of Tom Sawyer” at 7:30 p.m. Monday and Tuesday and April 15-17, as well as at 2 p.m. April 17.

Tickets cost $7 on opening night and $10 for all other shows. The theater offers a family price of $36 for immediate family members living in the same household. Those interested can reserve tickets at

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Stained Glass Theater is limiting the number of available tickets. The theater will also have masks available in the lobby.
