A positive case of COVID-19 has been reported for a staff member at American Legion Post 5 in Jefferson City.

"In keeping with our post's commitment to maintaining open communication and ensuring the health of our members, their families and friends, we have been informed that a part-time Legion staff member who was working at our post Monday night, September 21, tested positive for the coronavirus," post Commander Gary Kempker said in a Friday news release. "The individual began showing symptoms on Tuesday."

Kempker said the post contacted the Cole County Health Department and post staff immediately initiated deep-cleaning protocols.

"It is encouraged, but not mandatory, that post members and visitors consider masks and adhere to social-distancing requirements," Kempker said. "The post reported a previous case in early September, and that individual has since recovered."
