Because of its popularity the first go-around, Catholic Charities of Central and Northern Missouri is hosting another "Walk With Ease" program.

This six-week Arthritis Foundation walking program will take place Oct. 4 through Nov. 14.

The program is intended to increase physical activity and improve mental health for arthritis sufferers and people aspiring to live healthy lives. Sustained walking benefits the body and spirit, said Judith Mutamba, Catholic Charities director of health and nutrition services.

Walk With Ease is a self-directed program that motivates participants to make their own walking plans and keep records, taking stock of progress and identifying challenges, she said. It potentially offers the chance to get in shape for additional exercises.

Participants are encouraged to walk on their own or with a buddy at least three times per week. They also connect once a week via Zoom meetings with trained instructors to discuss successes and challenges and to receive education about physical activity. Participants choose Zoom sessions that fit their schedules — noon-1 p.m. Mondays, noon-1 p.m. Wednesdays or 5:30-6:30 p.m. Thursdays.

Guidebooks and walking schedules are provided to get participants safely moving toward better health.

The registration deadline is Sunday.
