Emily Cole is the News Tribune's Jefferson City government reporter. She covers the Jefferson City Council, city committees and departments, and other organizations like the Jefferson City Housing Authority. She moved to Mid-Missouri after earning a degree in journalism from Missouri State University in Springfield in May 2019, where she also served as news editor for the award-winning student-run newspaper, The Standard. Originally from the Joplin area, she's a Missouri native and vaguely remembers a trip to the Capitol as a young child -- with a picture in front of the building to prove it. As an intern at the Branson Tri-Lakes News in summer 2018, she was part of a reporting team that received a first-place award for Best News or Feature Series from the Missouri Press Association for coverage of a duck boat sinking on Table Rock Lake. She started working at the News Tribune in June 2019.
